Great news! Senator Cleary filed our immunization
expansion legislation on Wednesday and it has been referred to the
Medical Affairs Committee. The bill number is S.413. If passed,
three very important changes to pharmacy practice law will occur:
1. An interprofessional committee will decide
what vaccines pharmacists can administer without a prescription (no need for
further legislation!)
2. Pharmacy students can administer vaccines
provided they are certified and are directly supervised by a pharmacist
3. Pharmacists can administer flu vaccine to
patients down to the age of 12 years without a prescription
In order for S.413 to pass we need your help! Please
contact your senator and ask for his/her support for Senate Bill 413.

her; as well as to find out more information about the bill: http://www.scrx.org/pharmacy-vaccine-expansion-legislation
I have attached a link to a document that provides examples of a
phone message and an email or letter. Please feel free to copy or edit
based on your own thoughts about the bill.
This would be a HUGE win for pharmacy and I would really
appreciate your help in getting it passed!
Let me know if you have any questions. A big thank you to
Dr. Patti Fabel with South Carolina College of Pharmacy for providing templates
to use for communication.
Thanks!
Dr. Shealy
