APhA-ASP Mid Year Regional Meeting

All members planning on attending  APhA-ASP's Mid Year Regional Meeting are asked to please attend a brief informational session to discuss travel plans, policy process, and general information about the weekend. CPFI Bible Study and Spooky Hayride

We are having bible study Wednesday morning 8-8:20 in Room 141.  Breakfast is provided and everyone is welcome!

There is a spooky hayride that is open to the community October 17, 18, 24, and 25 at PET (Palmetto Equestrian Therapeutic Riding Program) in Clinton.  The address is 4000 Hurricane Church Road.  It is a fun event to go to for all ages!  If you are interested in volunteering for the spooky hayride please contact Becca Foster (rrfoster@presby.edu).

SCSHP Fall Meeting - October 16th

The South Carolina Society of Health-System Pharmacists (SCSHP) is having their Fall Meeting on October 16th at the Doubletree in Columbia.  There is great programming for students, including a residency primer, resident meet-and-greet/roundtable, and residency showcase.  Registration for students for the full meeting is $35, or you can just choose to come to the residency showcase from 5-7 for $15.  Online registration is open through October 1.  More information about registration and the meeting agenda can be found by following this link:

SSHP Meeting - October 6th

The next chapter meeting is October 6th from 12 to 1 in room 104.

I am pleased to announce that our guest speakers will be Dr. Kevin Brittain and Dr. Patrick Cogan.

Dr. Brittain is the informatics clinical pharmacy specialist at the Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia, and he also serves as the residency coordinator for Dorn's informatics and administration PGY-2 residency program.

Dr. Cogan is the current PGY-2 informatics and administration resident at Dorn.

Lunch will be provided to members; we simply ask that you RSVP via the survey which will be released later this week.

2015 PLS Leadership Conference in Charleston, SC

The Beta Chi Chapter of Phi Lambda Sigma at the South Carolina College of Pharmacy on the MUSC Campus in Charleston, South Carolina is hosting their 13^th annual leadership conference on Saturday, February 7^th, 2015 at the College Center at Trident Technical College in North Charleston. I have attached the details about this full-day program, including links for registration and payment. Please help us spread the word about this conference to the faculty, staff and students at your school and anyone else you think may be interested in attending the program. We hope that many schools will be able to send representation to the conference again this year.

NCPA Dues

We have extended the deadline for NCPA dues until Monday, September 22nd.  Dues are $50.  Checks can be made out to PCSP-NCPA and can be put in Nicole Bennett's mailbox.

PCCA December and January Student Compounding Boot Camps

It's that time of year again!  PCCA is excited to inform you of our December and January Boot Camp Schedule!  The two-day Introductory Compounding Lab Boot Camp is tremendously popular.  It is designed to introduce students to the more unique and novel dosage forms that are utilized by today's compounding pharmacists, to enlighten them as to the reality and feasibility of opening their own compounding pharmacy, and to inspire them to think of compounding as a viable, rewarding, and fulfilling career pathway. 

Two full days of lecture and hands-on laboratory work provide a basic understanding of the skills, tools, and equipment used in Contemporary Compounding.  Students complete eleven dosage forms they take home with them, focusing on dosage forms such as lollipops, lip balms, troches, and transdermal delivery systems.  Lectures on various contemporary compounding topics, compounding as a career path, and patient case studies are also on the agenda.

Here are the upcoming dates scheduled at our PCCA facility in Houston, TX:

·        January 5 – 6, 2015

SSHP Reminders

The deadline to sign up to participate in the ASHP Clinical Skills Competition is Monday, September 22.  Don't forget to attend the information session on the 22nd in room 104 beginning at 5 PM to find out more!

If you weren't able to submit your membership application and dues by last week's deadline, we will accept any remaining applications on Monday, September 22.  Please remit to Markie Webster or place in her mailbox.

One of our organization's annual projects is sending thank you letters to our school's hospital and health-system preceptors during the annual hospital and health-system pharmacists week each Fall.  If you are interested in helping us write a few of these thank you letters, please e-mail Lisa Leary lmleary@presby.edu to let her know.

Dress Down Day

Dress casually on Friday, September 19th for $3. See your class president on that morning to pay and get a sticker to wear. The donations will go to Sumaritan's Purse, aiding in the efforts against Ebola. 

AMCP First Meeting--Monday, September 15th

Our first chapter meeting is this Monday, September 15th in room 140 from 12p-1p.  We will have a guest speaker, Phillip Wiegand, educate us about his career in managed care pharmacy.

Membership applications and dues ($60) can be submitted to Brittany Bokern or placed in her mailbox NO later thanFriday, September 19th.

The deadline to remit professional meeting reimbursement forms for events taking place in the Fall semester to Ms. Gloria King is this Monday, Sept. 15th.  (This includes Midyear!)

The deadline to sign up for SSHP membership  is Friday, September 19th.  Don't forget that membership in SSHP will give you a significant discount on Midyear registration!

The deadline to sign up for the ASHP clinical skills competition is Tuesday, September 22, 2014.  We will host an information session that evening at 5 PM in room 104. 

Dues are $60. Kindly make checks payable to PCSP - SSHP.  

P4 students, if you would like to mail us your application, send it to the School of Pharmacy at Markie Webster's attention. 

If you are on campus, look for copies of the membership application on the SSHP bulletin board on the second floor.  You may place your completed applications with dues in Markie Webster's mail box.

Please congratulate the PCSP team in advancing past the first round of the online ACCP Clinical Pharmacy Challenge.  Jason Jones, Steven Robinette and Caleb Wallace advanced our team from 104 teams into the next round of 64 teams. 

NCPA Meeting 9-8-2014

SSHP First Meeting – Monday, September 8th

Thank you to everyone who stopped by the SSHP booth during the membership drive; it was great to see familiar faces and make new friends.

This is just a reminder that our first chapter meeting is Monday, Sept. 8th from 12 to 1 in Room 104. There will be a presentation about our organization, events planned for the year, and ways to get involved; Dr. Goodbar will talk about ways to get involved at the state level with the South Carolina Society of Health-System Pharmacy; and a few students who completed interesting internships over the summer will give brief presentations about those so you can hear about the great opportunities available for you during the summer. 

Lunch won't be provided at this first meeting, but please feel free to bring your lunch with you.

We will have copies of the membership application at Monday's meeting. Dues are $60., and this covers your membership in ASHP ($47), SCSHP ($5), and our local SSHP chapter ($8). Kindly make checks payable to PCSP- SSHP.

SCSHP/SCPhA Student Networking Event - September 18th

Please join SCSHP and SCPhA on September 18th from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Liberty in the Vista area in Columbia, SC.  Board members and leaders from both state pharmacy organizations will be present at this event for the purpose of networking with pharmacy students throughout the state.  Numerous opportunities to get involved in both organizations will be available for discussion at this event, and we really hope that PCSP students will make every effort to attend this first annual event!  This event has been approved to count as your professional event attendance for your GAP.

The Honor Council website is now live and listed with the organizations on the homepage.  The page contains information on how to apply for honor council and how to report violations.  You can access the site by Honor Council Website.

If you are interested in joining the PCSP Honor Council, please fill out the online application found here (same as is listed in moodle): Honor Council Application     The password is: honor

Each applicant will be required to have (1) letter of recommendation from either a faculty member or a current honor council member.  This recommendation form can be found here (also the same that is listed in moodle): Honor Council Recommendation   The password is:  honor
